All incoming engineering students come in as undeclared engineering with a subplan in the major they would like to pursue. Once the student is eligible to enroll in MATH 181 (Calculus I) they can be moved from undeclared engineering to their specific major program.

If you have an advising hold, you must schedule with a College of Engineering academic advisor to get the hold removed. You can schedule this through Navigate or by calling our front desk at 775-682-7721.

If you have an enrollment hold, then you need to work with the designated department to get the hold removed. Beneath your enrollment hold in MyÂ鶹ӳ»­, click the details button, then again on the enrollment hold to view what the hold is for and who you need to contact to get it removed.

If you have a hold on your account, that may stop you from enrolling in your classes. Some classes also may require department permission, prerequisites or co-requisites, or may have sections reserved for specific student populations.

If you experience issues when trying to enroll in a class, check the class information page on MyÂ鶹ӳ»­ for requisite information and any special enrollment instructions.

Some classes require department consent, or permission from someone in the department, for you to register. Permission for you to enroll must be obtained from either the instructor or the department that administers that course and must be entered into MyÂ鶹ӳ»­ prior to registering. The College of Engineering Advising Center is unable to grant permission for students to enroll in courses that need department consent.

Students may enroll in non-repeatable courses twice without special permission. Non-repeatable courses are those in which credit can be earned only once. A College of Engineering academic advisor’s permission is required to enroll in a non-repeatable course a third time.

In order to receive permission to enroll in a course after the second attempt, you must fill out the form below. Once you complete the questionnaire, please send it back to your academic advisor. Please make sure you meet with your academic advisor before filling out the form so we may discuss the repeat enrollment policy in detail.

The Board of Regents Handbook states that all NSHE students must remain continuously enrolled in both their English and math courses until they have satisfied their English and math requirements.

As a result of this policy, students cannot drop, swap or change core English and math courses on their own. Students must complete an online request form to receive assistance from Admissions and Records to make this change.

Students can order their official transcripts from most institutions through the . Students transferring from NSHE (e.g. UNLV, CSN, WNC, TMCC, etc.) institutions should pay attention to free electronic transcript request instructions.

All engineering degrees start with MATH 181 (Calculus 1) in the first semester. If you do not start with MATH 181 (Calculus 1) in the fall, you may not be able to graduate in four years. However, you can take classes in Wintermester and / or summer (your math placement will determine if you need to use both) to maybe get back on to the four-year graduation plan.

We encourage students to take the ALEKS math placement exam if you do not have ACT or SAT scores or if you feel your test scores do not adequately reflect your mathematical abilities. You can talk with your advisor about this in more detail. Learn more about ALEKS to see if you are eligible to place into a higher math class.

Students should contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships with any financial aid questions. Many majors and minors have program-specific scholarships – please contact the department office to inquire about these.

Engineering students can meet with any academic advisor in the College of Engineering. These advisors can help with new or returning student advising, questions with core curriculum, academic recovery and engineering probation, graduation checks and many other things in regards to your undergraduate career. Your faculty mentor can advise you on the proper selection of your electives to meet your long-term goals. They can provide information about individual classes within their department, discuss graduate school and answer career questions. Depending on your major, you may be assigned to a specific faculty mentor. Please visit the Faculty Mentor page to find out who is your faculty mentor. 

Yes! Students on Academic Recovery or returning from dismissal are required to meet with a College of Engineering academic advisor prior to semester registration or return. Contact the College of Engineering Academic Advising Center at (775) 682-7721.
