has been a busy one for the Â鶹ӳ»­ School of Public Health.

On Monday, April 7, more than 75 faculty, staff, students and community members took part in the School of Public Health Day at the Â鶹ӳ»­ State Legislature in Carson City.

Dr. Muge Akpinar-Elci, dean of the School of Public Health, and Eric Crosbie, Ph.D., associate professor and graduate director of Social and Behavioral Health and Health Administration and Policy, were welcomed to the Senate floor by Senate Majority Leader Nicole J. Cannizzaro.

During a lunchtime ceremony, the Â鶹ӳ»­ Public Health Champion Awards were presented to key legislators in recognition of their commitment to advancing public health across the state. Akpinar-Elci and Megan Comlossy, MPP, director of public affairs and policy for the School of Public Health, led the ceremony.

Award recipients included Senate Minority Leader Robin L. Titus; Assemblymember Tracy Brown-May; Assemblymember and Minority Floor Leader Gregory T. Hafen; and Senator Fabian Donate, deputy majority whip.

The event also featured student poster presentations and participation from representatives of , , the , the and others.

Winners of the School’s This is Public Health competition presented their projects to the Â鶹ӳ»­ Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services. Students from Little Flower School in Reno also joined the day’s events, showcasing their robotics fair projects focused on public health to assembly members and guests throughout the day.

Celebrations continue on Thursday, April 10, with Building Resilience: Giving Today, for Tomorrow, an open house event marking the first anniversary of the School of Public Health’s move to the Edna S. Brigham Building and the University’s Giving Day. The event will welcome faculty, staff, students, University leadership and community partners for an afternoon of connection and celebration.
