Participate in JFIT

The program will prepare students to take on the challenges and opportunities that come with being a Â鶹ӳ»­ journalism student. By the end of the JFIT program, the students will be more prepared for their academic careers.

JFIT participants experience the following:

  • Gain core skills & knowledge related to the Reynolds School
  • Become familiar with campus resources that support student success
  • Develop an understanding of resources available in the school’s labs and studios
  • Meet and interact with Reynolds School faculty, staff and academic advisers
  • Develop an understanding of the school’s internship program
  • Increase awareness of professional development and how imperative it is in the journalism profession

Who should attend JFIT?

JFIT is required for all Reynolds School first-year students who are pre-journalism majors, planning to declare a specific journalism major in one of the following emphases:

  • News, broadcasting and documentary
  • Public relations and advertising
  • Film & media production
  • Spanish-language media
  • Media studies
  • Visual communication

How do I apply for JFIT?

There is no need to apply to JFIT as all incoming first-year students are required to participate in the program. You will be automatically enrolled in the Â鶹ӳ»­FIT course that corresponds to journalism and it should appear on your MyÂ鶹ӳ»­ schedule as a 109 course.
