University’s New Student Opening Weekend held Aug. 17-20

First-year and transfer students arrive on campus for move-in, iPad distribution and Opening Weekend events

RENO, Nev. ­— 鶹ӳ first-year and transfer students, along with their families, will be on campus starting Thursday, Aug. 17, for new student check-in, residence hall move-in and Opening Weekend events. Arriving students will participate in either the 鶹ӳFIT program, a required, one-credit class to help students transition from high school to college, or the TransferFIT program, an optional three-credit class for transfer students to help ease the transition to the University.

As part of the check-in process, each incoming first-year or transfer student will receive an Apple iPad Air, Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard Folio through the Digital Wolf Pack Initiative program. Opening Weekend will also include an opening ceremony in Mackay Stadium on Aug. 19 and other events for students and families.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:

11 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18 (Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, second floor): Second day of fall move-in and check-in for 鶹ӳFIT/TransferFIT

  • Centralized check-in for 鶹ӳFIT/TransferFIT, iPad Air distribution and on-campus housing will be held on the second floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. All incoming students will receive an iPad Air and accessories at no cost as part of the Digital Wolf Pack Initiative.
  • MEDIA PARKING FOR CHECK-IN: Media are welcome to park a marked vehicle in the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex or near the Joe Crowley Student Union – avoiding red zones or ADA parking spaces.
  • MEDIA PARKING FOR MOVE-IN: Media are encouraged to park in the Davidson Academy parking lot across from Artemisia Way and North Virginia Street, to cover students moving into the Great Basin Hall, just north of the parking lot. If there are no spaces available in this lot, please consider parking in the lot just north of the Continuing Education Building with access from 11th Street.
  • MEDIA DRIVING UNMARKED VEHICLES: Media can contact Scott Walquist at 775-287-6788 to obtain a parking pass for check-in and move-in.

8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19 (Mackay Stadium): Opening ceremony for 鶹ӳFIT/TransferFIT students and their families

  • This annual tradition held in Mackay Stadium welcomes new students to the University by celebrating the start of the school year with President Sandoval’s official address.
  • MEDIA PARKING: Media are welcome to park marked or unmarked vehicles in the West Stadium Parking Garage – avoiding red zones or ADA parking spaces.

8 a.m., Monday, Aug. 21: First full day of 鶹ӳFIT and TransferFIT

Monday, Aug. 28: First day of 2023 fall semester
