Â鶹ӳ» us

As a university, we are consistently improving strategies and practices to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for students, staff and faculty. As a Student Services division, we are working to create a more interconnected work culture and have a culture-shifting strategic plan for diversity, equity and inclusion. This plan will help us increase the retention of students and staff, in particular individuals from marginalized and minoritized identities. Please contact us: housing@unr.edu; (775) 784-1113; or in our office in Juniper Hall Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Within this context, Residential Life, Housing, and Food Services is developing an infrastructure grounded in the following values to better support students of all identities as they live on campus.

Student development

Integration of academics with the larger scope of personal growth and global awareness by promoting the whole student experience.

Integrity

We believe in personal responsibility from our staff and our students to encourage accountability and consistency within our department.

Inclusion

We must be willing to learn about privileges and barriers within our own identities as well as those of others in order to sustain an environment that is accessible and welcoming.

Safety

With the encouragement of connectivity we foster safe living environments that are secure, well maintained and comfortable.  We strive to create a feeling of home where the community is invested in the well-being of each other.

Collaborative service

We ensure excellent customer service by maintaining teamwork within our own department and across campus by providing our students with resources that are innovating, informative and reliable.

Join our team

We are looking for candidates who want to join our team as we work towards our Commitment to Equity:

"Residential Life, Housing and Food Services promotes and strives to sustain a culture that welcomes and embraces inclusivity. We are committed to continuously examining and dismantling the ways we perpetuate and participate in systemic oppression and work together to take a stand against issues of racism, power, privilege and systems of oppression to better support our community."

Please check out our accomplishments to date related to inclusion, our call to action for current and new staff members, and the initiatives we are (or will be) working on.

Why you want to work in Reno, NV

Affectionately called “The Biggest Little City in America,” Reno offers all the thrills of a metropolitan area with the comfort of a small town. Although primarily recognized for its historic hotels, world-renowned car shows and proximity to the incredible Lake Tahoe, Reno is a hotspot for local Â鶹ӳ» breweries as well as art, craft and food festivals.

The proximity to Lake Tahoe (45 minutes) allows for residents to enjoy boating, hiking biking (road and mountain) and more without having to worry about a long drive. With an international airport less than 10 minutes from the University (and surrounding communities) and the San Francisco Bay Area about 3 hours by car, it is very easy to get anywhere in the world quickly.

Featuring a variety of religious centers, two LGBTQIA+ resource and community centers, and a large population of political activists, Reno allows anyone to feel at home and to create change. Residents are known to be active participants in local, state and national political movements. Often visited by presidential candidates and other political leaders, Reno is an excellent place to gain first-hand knowledge of American politics.

What some consider to be a top vacation spot, we call our backyard. There is always something happening in Reno and Lake Tahoe, making it a place you can easily call home.
