Summer orientation
Are you starting school in August?
Students beginning classes in the fall semester (August) must attend a single-day orientation held in June or July. Orientation is required for all first-year students and optional but strongly encouraged for all new transfer students. All details, including session dates and registration information, will be available on the website by March 14. Registration opens Monday, March 17, at 12 p.m. noon.
All orientations consist of three parts:
- Academic Advising is step one of orientation. It will occur throughout the summer. Beginning in early June, students will receive an email from their advisor with instructions on how to schedule a virtual advising appointment using the Navigate app.
- Wolf Pack Preview, a pre-orientation, web-based program is to be completed prior to attending orientation. Login information will be sent via email one week prior to the student's scheduled orientation date.
- Orientation Day, in-person and on campus.
First-Year Student Orientation: This single-day program focuses on preparing students for the basics of being a college student. Students will participate in workshops and presentations on academic advising, college life and getting involved. All Orientation dates include a simultaneous family program.

Virtual Orientation options may be available for students with extenuating circumstances that prevent them from attending any in-person orientation session. If you would like information about our virtual options, please email us at orientation@unr.edu. A member of our team will contact you to discuss options as appropriate.
Transferring to a new institution can be exciting, and can come with challenges. Transfer orientation is a single-day program that helps transfer students make a successful transition to the Â鶹ӳ». Transfer students will participate in workshops on wellness, community engagement and resources available to transfer students.

Orientation for first year students takes place in three parts:
Part 1: Academic Advising (required)
- Beginning in early June, students will receive an email from their college with instructions on how to schedule a virtual academic advising appointment
- Students will utilize either the Navigate app or the online tool to schedule their appointment
- Students are required to complete an online Pre-Advising course prior to attending their advising appt. Student will automatically be enrolled and sent login information.
Part 2: Online Wolf Pack Preview
- Complete at your own pace during the week prior to attending orientation
- Log-in information will be sent via email one-week before your orientation date
Part 3: In-Person Orientation Day (required)
- Check your email for a confirmation of the date you registered to attend
- Students and guests will receive several emails with details about the program as well as when and where to check-in
Transfer students should contact academic advisors directly to go over your transfer credits and plan for future terms. Find your advisor and make an appointment as soon as possible. You do not need to wait until your orientation session.
Your Orientation experience takes place in two parts. Part 1 begins one week before your scheduled date:
Part 1: Online Wolf Pack Preview
- Complete at your own pace during the week before your orientation date
- Log-in information will be sent via email one week before your orientation date
Part 2: Virtual or In-Person Orientation Day
- Check your email for a confirmation of the date you registered to attend and details about when and where to arrive
- . Please note that your NetID (letters) is different from your NSHE ID (numerical). You will need your NetID to access the Pre-Advising course and Wolf Pack Preview.
- , if needed, to ensure we enroll you in the correct Pre-Advising Course. Email advising@unr.edu if you have questions about changing a major.
- Arrange to complete any placement testing before your orientation date if you wish to appeal your placement level in math or English.
- Send in a photo for your Wolf Card. If you send in a photo at least 24 hours before your orientation, your WolfCard will be ready for pick-up during your orientation. If you do not send in a photo, you will have to wait to get your WolfCard during Opening Weekend.
We welcome families to participate in orientation as well! All summer orientation sessions include a separate, simultaneous program for parents and guests. The family program is an opportunity to become familiar with campus, connect with administrators and faculty, and participate in breakout sessions on topics ranging from safety to financial aid to easing your student’s transition. Students must register each parent or guest through their orientation registration account. If you need to add or delete a parent or guest, please email the orientation office directly at orientation@unr.edu. Refunds will only be issued if changes are made at least ten days before the event.

- There is a $45 per guest fee for the transfer orientation program
- Guest fees are waived for students who qualify for an advanced registration fee waiver

Bienvenidas a todas las familias que hablan español y a sus invitados a la sesión de orientación de los estudiantes. Todas las sesiones de orientación de verano incluyen programas individuales, tanto para familiares e invitados como para los estudiantes, sin embargo, en el transcurso del día habrá tiempo para pasar tiempo con el estudiante. Los reembolsos se harán solo si los cambios se hacen por lo menos diez días antes del evento.
Los programas de Orientación duran un día, iniciando el check-in a las 8:30 am en Gateway Plaza enfrente del edificio Joe Crowley Student Union. El programa inicia desde las 10 am hasta las 5 pm con recorridos opcionales hasta las 6:15 pm. Transporte a la Universidad
Si están planeando tomar un vuelo, planee volar al Aeropuerto Internacional Reno-Tahoe. No se ofrece servicio de transporte, sin embargo, la Universidad está a 10 o 15 minutos en coche con cualquier compañía de traslado (taxi, Uber, Lyft). Estacionamiento

Registration, accommodations and travel to campus
Orientation is required for all first-year students. It is optional and strongly recommended for all new transfer students.
You are eligible to sign up for orientation when, "Register for Orientation" appears on your MyÂ鶹ӳ» to-do list. This appears after you have accepted admission, completed Advance Registration (first-year students only) and submitted the required immunizations. Please note, it can take 24-48 hours for materials to be processed and the system updated once completed.
Students will also receive an email invitation to register for orientation.
- If changes need to be made to your registration, including canceling or changing dates, adding or deleting guests, or updating information, please email orientation@unr.edu.
- If adding or deleting guests, please provide the name and email of the guest.
- All changes must be made at least ten (10) days before the date.
- Guest refunds will not be issued for any cancellation made less than ten (10) days in advance.
Orientation is covered by a New Student Fee that all new students pay as part of their tuition. There is no additional cost for a student to sign up for and attend orientation.

Free parking is available for students and guests at the Parking passes are required. Download and print the parking pass below and display in your window. Passes are only valid on orientation days and not valid at parking meters or numbered parking spaces. Passes will also be available at check-in.
