In continuation of last year's in-kind sponsorship of the Reno-Tahoe Blues Festival, the ΒιΆΉΣ³» will once again support the festival by loaning essential items to the event, such as golf carts and trash cans. This year's event will be held Aug. 14-16 at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.
This is the fifth year of the annual blues showcase. This year's event will feature performances from James Ingram, Tommy Castro and The Emotions. Lil' Dave Thompson will give the kick-off concert on Friday, Aug. 14, which will be followed by two full days of musical entertainment beginning at noon each day and continuing into the evening. More than 10,000 participants are expected. There will also be an array of beverages and food available, including Southern specialities.
"This year, as in years past, we're continuing to provide one of the best blues experiences on the West Coast, bringing both veteran musicians as well as relative newcomers to entertain and delight Reno-Tahoe audiences," Charles McNeely, president of the Reno-Tahoe Blues Fest and former Reno city manager, said. "Each year the Reno-Tahoe Blues Fest continues to grow, showcasing different artists, more amenities and exciting new opportunities for blues fans to really immerse themselves in music."
That is why the University is excited to be involved in the Festival, and is pleased to be able to help in a cost-effective way. The Festival is also looking for volunteers to serve as ushers, parking attendants and runners. Volunteers receive free tickets to the event, as well as a complimentary meal, pre-event picnic and t-shirt.
"Blues fans at the Reno-Tahoe Blues Fest enjoy their experience with us each year because of the volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to create a seamless and carefree festival," AnneMarie Carey, executive director of Reno-Tahoe Blues Fest, said. "The majority of our attendees are visitors to Reno, so having that local knowledge, combined with a passion for blues that so many of our volunteers have, makes for a memorable experience."
Tickets are on sale now. One-day tickets are $35 for general admission/lawn seating and $70 for reserved seating. Two-day tickets are $60 for general admission/lawn seating, $130 for reserved seating, and $200 for VIP Seating, which includes one parking permit and premium seating. University employees are eligible for a 20% discount at all levels by entering the code UNRBLU at purchase.
