Βι¶ΉΣ³» PASS

Βι¶ΉΣ³» PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a nationally recognized program to provide assistance in some of the more difficult classes on campus. PASS Leaders who have successfully completed the class in a previous semester will attend class in order to stay current on the material being covered. PASS leaders hold multiple weekly sessions outside of class, providing a guided study atmosphere for any students who want the extra support. All sessions are free, optional, and do not require advance registration.

What can I expect at Βι¶ΉΣ³» PASS sessions?

Βι¶ΉΣ³» PASS sessions are like a guided study group. These sessions encourage personal interactions, group collaboration, and creative problem solving. Βι¶ΉΣ³» PASS sessions are not another lecture. PASS Leaders do come to the sessions with material to help you review for the course and they are a resource for students since they have successfully completed the course. You should come to sessions prepared with questions for the best use of your time.

Who are Βι¶ΉΣ³» PASS Leaders?

Βι¶ΉΣ³» PASS Leaders are current University students who have completed the course and shown strong peer leadership skills. PASS leaders are not teaching assistants or graduate assistants. They are not employed by the professor. They are undergraduate students who help guide students through the important portions of the class and show students how to succeed. Leaders support students in learning the material and help them better prepare for the course.

Why do students attend Βι¶ΉΣ³» PASS sessions?

Because it works! And it is absolutely free! Advantages include:

  • You may get a better grade. Both national and on-campus studies have shown that students who attend PASS regularly average between a half and a full letter grade higher than the rest of the class.
  • You will meet people in your major. Since PASS sessions are more interactive than most classes, you will get to know people in your major. If you are a first year student this can be especially valuable to you, as your fellow classmates make great resources for help and forming study groups in your future classes at the University.
  • You will have more free time. Many people do not attend PASS because they feel like they don't have time. Most people who do attend PASS tell us that they have more time than before because they grasp the class concepts faster and do not have to spend so much time studying.
