Anthropology doctoral candidate receives fellowship for his dissertation research abroad

John Ostermiller, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Anthropology at the Â鶹ӳ»­, has received a graduate fellowship from Kobe College Corporation - Japan Education Exchange (KCC-JEE) for his dissertation research in Shizuoka, Japan. His dissertation investigates how a diverse community of Muslim migrants work, worship and thrive in Japanese society.

In addition to being a doctoral candidate in cultural anthropology, Ostermiller is also completing his graduate certificate in the Gender, Race and Identity Department. His can be read in full on the KCC-JEE website.

This is the second award for Ostermiller, who previously earned a prestigious, highly competitive in April of this year.

Ostermiller is the first recipient for both of these grants at the University.
