October 24, 2024
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
Happy Â鶹ӳ» Day, Wolf Pack! This is one of the most beautiful times on our campus. I hope you are all taking good care of one another and are finding the right personal balance with studies and work responsibilities as we move into the last days of October, which include the Â鶹ӳ» Day Holiday.
Â鶹ӳ» officially became our nation’s 36th state on Oct. 31, 1864. It is worth noting that our University is only 10 years younger than Â鶹ӳ» — we were founded on Oct. 12, 1874 in Elko. This provides a meaningful and long-lasting connection between our state and its original land-grant institution. Each Â鶹ӳ» Day Holiday provides us all with an opportunity to take stock of why both the history of our state and our University are linked forever.
Â鶹ӳ» Day is a time for all Â鶹ӳ»ns to come together. Whether one lives in northern or southern Â鶹ӳ», at the base of the Ruby Mountains in Elko, in Tonopah or the majestic shadow of Great Basin National Park in Ely, and everywhere in between, we are a state where our varied geography and diversity are what make Â鶹ӳ» special and unique.
I hope we all use the Â鶹ӳ» Day Weekend as a time to celebrate our great state and remember that the promise of Â鶹ӳ» has always been one of opportunity, support for each other, and strength as we move forward to our next great tomorrow.
Happy Â鶹ӳ» Day!
Go Pack!
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
