Nominate the next employee of the month
The SEC Employee Recognition Committee is always accepting Employee of the Month nominations. Please consider nominating your most-deserving classified colleague.
Scot Kozlowski, a supervisor in Facilities Maintenance Services, and Sherri Barker, an office manager in the School of Social Work, have been named July's Employees of the Month by the Staff Employees Council.
Kozlowski was cited by nominator Melissa Rutter for "a positive attitude in all endeavors" and for an uncanny ability to take on assignments and responsibilities that often go far beyond the norm.
"Scot took on the FMS Commencement responsibilities many years ago," Rutter wrote. "It was never an official assignment. It was just something that needed leadership and he took the initiative." Beginning in March, Rutter said, Kozlowski becomes involved with Commencement planning, working closely with Admissions and Records to develop a plan for the current year. After attending numerous meetings in April, by May he begins "to coordinate and organize all entities involved in the process." Rutter noted that as she wrote her nomination in May, "Scot is busy on the Quad answering questions posed by the set-up crew, contractors and University officials. He is also managing his normal duties with a smile. When faced with extra requests or changes he is responsive and quick to react ... Commencement is just one example of Scot's dedication and commitment to the success of the University. He is a role model in all he does."
Barker, nominator Farah Rashdan noted, "is an exemplary employee of the University." "Sherri never hesitates to offer more than a helping hand when it comes to the students within the School of Social Work," Rashdan wrote. Barker often, Rashdan said, "has been able to not only troubleshoot issues that can directly affect our accreditation period, but she has taken an active duty of resolving those issues with pristine results." Rashdan further noted that Barker is a shining example of a person who goes far beyond her job description for the betterment of the School of Social Work, and the University. "Sherri is not only a prime figure within the office realm," Rashdan wrote, "but within the public eye she is able to surpass all expectations." Rashdan said that perhaps Barker's finest quality is her empathy: "She is a constant reminder of what a magnanimous contributor is able to construct while changing others' lives for the better."
