Master of Arts in History (M.A.)

The M.A. in history program supports students who want to expand their knowledge of the historical discipline, while practicing critical investigation through research and writing.

Master of Arts in Teaching History (M.A.T.H.)

The M.A.T. in history is ideal for secondary teachers of social studies and history who want to expand their knowledge in a specific historical field. We offer coursework and advising that you can easily combine with a current career in the classroom. We will provide you with opportunities to collaborate with faculty in the College of Education and Human Development and help guide you through constructing a historically innovative unit of curriculum that you can take into the classroom. Note that this degree program does not lead to a Βι¶ΉΣ³» public schools teaching certificate for grades K-12, since prospective students generally already have this credential when they apply.

Doctor of Philosophy in History (Ph.D.)

Our Ph.D. in history program allows advanced graduate students to sharpen their historical understanding and research skills alongside award-winning faculty. Ph.D. candidates work on original and innovative research and writing in their chosen field of study that culminates in a dissertation.

Graduate Certificate in History

The 12-unit program is designed for, but not limited to, classroom teachers in social studies seeking advanced preparation in specific history content areas. Students will improve their professional preparation by expanding their knowledge of content areas and research and writing skills, selecting areas of study linked to their professional goals. The program has been designed to expand the ability of teachers to instruct across the curriculum based on the district standards.
