What will construction management teach me?

Construction management involves the design, planning and management of the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the built environment. This includes buildings, transportation systems, utilities and commercial, industrial, residential, and environmental projects. Examples include highways, bridges, airports, buildings, dams, reservoirs, light and high-speed rail systems, hospitals, laboratories, residential communities, utilities, and environmental restoration projects.  The construction management minor provides students the skills to facilitate entry into the construction industry and develop an understanding of industry practices required to ensure a quality-built environment. Due to industry demands for increased numbers of skilled personnel, this minor provides much needed supplementary knowledge for engineering, business, science, and related majors.

Learning outcomes

Students will:

  • demonstrate competency related to construction management principles, including financial management, project scheduling, project estimating, and overall project planning.
  • demonstrate an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities related to construction management.
  • have the ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and tools of the construction industry in construction planning activities.

Why choose construction management?
