Community engagement

The Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center is deeply embedded in the Reno community and coordinates various outreach efforts to foster interest in science.

The Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center has been a staple within the Reno community since its inception in 1963. It fosters interest in atmospheric and space science through various outreach efforts, including the annual Sci-On! Film Festival, the Star Walkers Space Club and beyond. The center also offers facility rentals to community groups and individuals for special events, such as birthday parties, wedding receptions, meetings and more. Thanks to gracious donors and the support of the local community, the Planetarium continues to keep its doors open and inspire people of all ages.

Tomorrow's Universe K-12 Student Art and Essay Competition

For over 60 years, the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center has served as a gateway to the universe, inspiring generations of students, educators and lifelong learners. With the upcoming installation of Cosm's cutting-edge CX System (previously known as DomeX) in the dome theater, made up of over 3,800 LED panels, we are on the brink of a transformation. This state-of-the-art upgrade will redefine how we engage with astronomy, science and storytelling, setting a new standard for planetarium experiences in our region. The Tomorrow’s Universe Competition invites K-12 students and educators to imagine the possibilities of a newly renovated Planetarium! Deadline for entry is Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.

Sponsor a Panel Program

The Sponsor a Panel Program offers community members, teachers, families and small businesses the opportunity to play a vital role in the Planetarium’s upcoming transformation. With a $250 donation, supporters can ‘sponsor’ a panel in the new George W. Gillemot Dome and have a name of their choice displayed during the pre-show presentation at every Planetarium showing. Sponsor name examples include “The Smith Family,” “John Doe” or “Mrs. Fields’ 3rd Grade Class.”

Corporate sponsorships

The Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center proudly offers six major donor recognition tiers, each designed to honor and celebrate the generosity of our dedicated corporate supporters. These tiers—ranging from Comet ($2,500) to Galaxy ($100,000+)—offer cumulative benefits, ensuring that each contribution level builds upon the previous one.
