Βι¶ΉΣ³»

A research and public service division at the Βι¶ΉΣ³»

The Βι¶ΉΣ³» Seismological Laboratory is a research division within the College of Science at the Βι¶ΉΣ³». The Laboratory has overall responsibility for instrumental studies of earthquakes in the Βι¶ΉΣ³» region. The laboratory operates a statewide network of seismographic stations and investigates the sizes, frequencies of occurrence, and distribution of earthquakes in the region, and other problems related to seismic risk in Βι¶ΉΣ³».

The Laboratory disseminates seismic information to the public and regularly publishes research results. It serves as a data repository and a resource for the public on matters related to earthquake activity and earthquake risks in Βι¶ΉΣ³» and adjoining states. The laboratory also handles grant- and contract-supported research on seismic problems of national and international importance, and interacts closely with the Βι¶ΉΣ³» Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering to prepare well-educated professionals for careers in seismology.
