Letter from Residential Life, Housing and Dining Services to Βι¶ΉΣ³» student residents
Mar. 12, 2020
Sent on behalf of the University’s Residential Life, Housing and Dining Services to student residents at the Βι¶ΉΣ³».
Dear Βι¶ΉΣ³» Student Resident,
We are reaching out to you following the email you received from the University about moving to a virtual learning environment starting March 23, 2020. This message directly applies to you as a student living on campus.
With the announcement of the University’s alternate schedule and the expectation of taking classes online, we view this time frame (beginning March 23 and lasting until further notice) as similar to Winter Break where you live off-campus.
This decision was not made lightly and was made in conjunction with our colleagues at the Washoe County Health District and Βι¶ΉΣ³» State Health Department. This decision is believed to be prudent to ensure the health and safety of our students. Because you signed an academic year contract, you do not need to remove personal belongings from your room, but we recommend taking valuables and what you may need to complete your academic coursework and to live comfortably off campus during this time frame.
While our expectation is for residents to relocate off campus during this time, we understand some students may not be able to meet this expectation. For that reason, we are asking every resident to complete this .
Some points of information that may be helpful:
- Students who will be allowed to remain on campus may be relocated to another hall (yet to be determined) during this time frame.
- Dining services will maintain limited operations as planned during spring break and meal plans will continue to work March 22 and afterward.
- Residents are still financially responsible for their housing assignment during this time frame as they are welcome to remain on campus; but are encouraged to be off campus.
If you need transportation assistance to get off campus (i.e., travel home, to a friend’s house, etc.), please call our office at (775) 784-1113, email us at housing@unr.edu, or come to our office on the lake level of Juniper Hall from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday to learn how to submit a request. This is separate from emergency funds available from the Dean of Students; and by utilizing one set of funds, you are ineligible to get additional funds from the other office.
If you have any questions about this email, please contact our office at (775) 784-1113 or housing@unr.edu.
Thank you for taking care of yourself,
Dean Kennedy, Ph.D.
Executive Director of Residential Life, Housing, and Dining Services
