Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
Outstanding Senior
The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes graduating students who have excelled academically and have improved leadership in our College.
Hannah Moore earned her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry & molecular biology with a minor in community health sciences. During her time at the University, she performed research in the Peter and Takako Jones Lab within the University’s School of Medicine. Under the guidance of Charis Himeda, she worked on a project critical for efforts to get a therapy for muscular dystrophy to the clinic. She quickly proved to be smart, hardworking, meticulous and capable of independent thinking and troubleshooting. Hannah set her own schedule around the needs of the project, putting her experiments first and often getting in to the lab at 7 a.m. while excelling in her other demanding courses required by the major. It was especially gratifying for all of us to find that Hannah is resilient and undaunted by failure. These characteristics are indispensable traits in a scientist and cannot be taught. As a graduate student, she has accepted a full-time research position in the Jones Lab to continue her work on the research project. In addition to her academic pursuits, she worked at the University’s Department of Fitness and Recreational Sports. Moving forward, she plans to attend graduate school to receive her doctorate. She has been a joy to work with and we expect her to be very successful at whatever career path she chooses. Hannah says, "I am honored to have been nominated and selected to receive this award. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my friends and family. I would not be where I am today without their unconditional love and support. I would also like to thank my lab mentors and role models Charis Himeda, Takako Jones and Peter Jones for their wisdom and guidance. Thank you to my second family: the staff at Fitness and Recreational Sports. I will cherish the memories and friends I have made working at the E.L Wiegand Fitness Center forever. My time at the Â鶹ӳ» as an undergraduate has been memorable and I am so excited to remain at the University as an employee full-time. Go Pack!"
