Melody Huslage, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of social work at the Βι¶ΉΣ³». Her research broadly focuses on gender-based violence. Specifically, she is interested in understanding and addressing this issue in Hispanic/Latine and immigrant populations. She utilizes and enjoys both quantitative and qualitative research, especially community-engaged research. Huslage considers it a privilege to work with students in a research capacity and hopes to encourage or engender a love for research and a respect for how it can help address the social justice issues we see today.

Project overview

Βι¶ΉΣ³» has the second highest rate of domestic violence in the country, the third highest rate when it comes to human trafficking, and the fifth highest rate of rape. The goal of this research project is to develop an intervention or educational program in response to the data obtained from a power-based violence prevalence survey of the Hispanic/Latine communities in Βι¶ΉΣ³» spring 2025. Participants may help engage community partners, read the research literature and help develop an intervention to address power-based violence.
