Summary

Daryl Lawson, MPT, P.T., DSc, is the founding chair and director of the Βι¶ΉΣ³» physical therapy program. He graduated with a B.S. degree from Central Michigan University. After graduating with a Master's degree in physical therapy from the University of Southern California, he practiced for 12 years as a physical therapist in orthopedics and wound management at Renown Medical Center. His clinical and academic journey included an orthopedic residency at Kaiser Hayward in Hayward, CA. Lawson graduated from Loma Linda University with an academic doctorate (DSc) and a dissertation that worked with people with diabetes and non-healing wounds. Before joining the faculty at the University, Lawson was a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy Education at Western Michigan University and an associate professor at Elon University in North Carolina. His teaching responsibilities include orthopedics (lower extremity), electrophysiology, integumentary/wound and a selective course in orthopedics. He was also the faculty director for the Elon Pro Bono Clinic and the faculty of the Cone Sports Medicine Fellowship program. Lawson has continued his research from his dissertation at Loma Linda University, which involved people who have diabetes and chronic, non-healing wounds (Loma Linda University). He has received multiple grants in electrical stimulation, orthopedics and wound management. These studies resulted in a patent on a device that increases blood perfusion to the lower extremities and improves wound healing rates in people with diabetes and non-healing wounds. Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK US) is an emerging tool Lawson uses for research, teaching and clinical work. He has taught courses and used MSK US for specific research in people with knee osteoarthritis and plantar fasciitis.
