Creativity will be put to the test when the Makerspace, a build area in the Â鶹ӳ» Innevation Center, hosts its fifth annual Makerthon – sponsored by Click Bond, Inc., April 25-27, 2025.
This year’s Makerthon 5 competition features student teams from the University, as well as local high schools and colleges, who will each compete to invent a new product based on an assigned, real-world challenge. Using the Makerspace’s wide array of tools, machinery and software, the teams will have 48 hours to develop, test, produce and then present prototypes of their products to a panel of judges. The winning team will be presented a $2,000 prize and entry into a prototype-to-product accelerator, where members will gain hands-on experience in transforming their idea into a market-ready product. Participant applications are open now through March 14.
The competition is hosted by the Innevation Center in collaboration with title sponsor Click Bond, Inc. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Carson City, Â鶹ӳ», Click Bond is a premiere manufacturer of adhesive-bonded fasteners, with more than 5,000 products offered worldwide. Its products are in use on aerospace, defense, marine, automotive, unmanned aerial vehicle, space exploration and industrial applications.
“Students participating come from a wide range of majors, backgrounds and skill levels,” said Daniel Smith, Makerspace manager at the Innevation Center. “Each year, we are blown away by the creativity, and problem-solving skills of these students. To see them putting their talents toward solving real-world problems is inspiring.”
A new addition to the event, prior to the Makerthon weekend build, will be to provide participants with the opportunity to tour the Click Bond facility in Carson City on Monday, March 24. During the two-hour tour of the manufacturer’s campus, students will see a demonstration of the company’s adhesive-bonding fastener technology, watch an automated bonding process perform a part application, and see some of the company’s XR-enabled projects.
