Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a conductor, play for a hot mic, perform with an entire symphony, lay down a groove or shine on stage?

From 2 to 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan.21, the Music Department at the 鶹ӳ will host “Experience Music Day” at the University Foundation Arts and Church of Fine Arts buildings. This open house event is for any students, parents or community members looking for the opportunity to explore studying music performance, music education, jazz, recording arts, composition and music history at the University level.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet a variety of faculty members, including members of the instrumental, vocal, jazz and music education departments. Additionally, the School of the Arts will have musicologists, composers, conductors, large ensemble directors and recording arts technicians on hand to discuss what it’s like to study music at the University. There will also be representation from the music fraternities and sororities so prospective students can explore what the musical Greek life looks like on campus.

The School of the Arts will host a diverse group of performances, such as student winds, brass, strings, voice and percussion chamber ensembles, student jazz combos, the Wolf Pack pep band, mariachi ensemble, piano soloists and faculty performers.

Registration for this event is complimentary; however, registering in advance is encouraged. Interested parties are welcome to visit for the entire event, or just a couple of hours, and experience what it is like to major, minor or participate in music at the 鶹ӳ.
