Summary
Aida Lizalde is a Mexican multimedia artist based in Joshua Tree. Their work explores the interplay between the physical and the psychological, natural and the artificial alongside the potential for harmony and failure in these relationships. They immigrated to the Central Valley of California with their family at fifteen and have moved between California, the East Coast and Mexico City since. Lizalde obtained a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from the University of California, Davis and an MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2023.
Throughout their career, Lizalde has received many awards and fellowships, including the Dedalus Foundation Master of Fine Arts Fellowships in Painting and Sculpture, the 2023 Miami University Young Sculptors Competition's William and Dorothy Yeck Award and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship. They have also been resident artists at the Archie Bray, MASS MoCA, High Desert Test Sites/A-Z West, the Vermont Studio Center and Casa Lu.
Lizalde's work has been exhibited at many galleries and museums, including Alfred University, The Dairy Center, Axis Gallery, Galeria 54, The School of Visual Arts, the Sierra Βι¶ΉΣ³» University Gallery, Holland Project Gallery, CCA Hubbell Street Galleries, Southern Exposure, SOMArts in San Francisco, Chandra Cerrito Contemporary, the Torrance Art Museum and the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art among others.
