Two students on campus test positive

July 2, 2020

To the Members of Our University Community:

Northern Βι¶ΉΣ³» has seen a rise in the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in recent days. Our University is not immune to the rise of community spread that our region has witnessed. This week two University students on campus tested positive for COVID-19. Both students are now self-isolating and are under the care of medical providers.

When an individual has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the Washoe County Health District determines who that individual may have had close contact with and provides medical guidance to those individuals. This contact tracing is a vital part in helping to limit the spread of COVID-19. This is the protocol that has been followed with the recent positives. We wish to send our good thoughts to these students, and are wishing both of them a safe and swift recovery.

This development is a reminder that COVID-19 continues to have an impact on all of our daily lives. It is vitally important that we continue to utilize the tools that we have to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 – mandatory wearing of face coverings by faculty, staff and students while on campus and at other University locations; observance of at least six feet social distancing; and the practice of good hygiene that includes regularly washing one’s hands and cleaning and sanitizing work and study spaces.

Please stay safe and healthy, and follow the best practices that health experts continue to stress during the pandemic.

You can find out more information about COVID-19 at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and please continue to seek out the University’s latest coronavirus information and updates.

Sincerely,
