Summary

Daniel Coen holds a M.A.T in Social Science Education from Georgia State University and a B.A. in History, also from Georgia State University, Atlanta GA. He is retired from the United States Coast Guard after 28 years of military service and attained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, E8. He currently resides in Carson City, NV and is a small business owner with his wife in nearby Gardnerville, NV. He works extensively with the Washoe Tribe of Βι¶ΉΣ³»­/California through his business and has extensive knowledge of the Walker River reservation through his mother-in-law, who taught there for16 years.

Being a well-rounded educator, he had the opportunity to teach a diverse group of middle and high school students, including inclusion-based classrooms. This has not only enhanced his teaching techniques and instructional methods, but also gave him an opportunity to enjoy students at all learning abilities. As a result, he perfected phenomenal communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, and leadership skills. Furthermore, he become proficient in developing comprehensive lesson plans; creating stimulating thematic units; and assessing individual students.

During his lengthy military career, he regularly mentored junior members to discuss and formulate best working practices to ensure the highest cohesiveness and teamwork at all his duty assignments. He mentored junior personnel on preparing for meaningful, successful, and lasting careers of their own. He is excited for the opportunity to bring this support and dedication to American Indian students, to enable them for success in higher education and life in general.

During his free time, Daniel enjoys just about anything that gets him into the mountains. An avid hunter and fisherman, he is always looking for opportunities to be in the great outdoors. Also an accomplished golfer, when not in the mountains, he can be found on any one of the many area golf courses.
