Scott Barnett

Assistant Professor

Summary

Dr. Barnett's research examines molecular pathways within the uterus in order to identify the causes of preterm labor. There are currently no FDA-approved drugs specifically designed to halt early labor, and Dr. Barnett is actively developing new medications intended to prevent early labor by relaxing the muscle of the uterus, known as the myometrium.  His drugs are unique in that they are formulated to avoid crossing the placenta to safeguard the health of the developing child. He holds a provisional patent for a preterm labor treatment and has previously investigated a dual-purpose medication for chronic kidney disease.
